Where do cruise ships anchor in St. John?

There is no cruise pier on St. John. Two thirds of the island is Virgin Islands National Park and no deep-water berth was ever built, so ships anchor off Cruz Bay and run tenders to the dock beside the ferry terminal in the middle of town. Wharfside Village is at the head of the dock, Mongoose Junction is a five-minute walk north, and taxis wait at the dock for the North Shore beaches — Honeymoon, Caneel, Hawksnest, Trunk Bay and Maho. Because everything arrives by tender, calls are small: expedition ships, sailing yachts and small luxury vessels of a few dozen to a few hundred passengers. Most visitors to St. John still arrive on the passenger ferry from Red Hook or Charlotte Amalie on St. Thomas.
