Car, Jeep and scooter rentals on Anegada

Anegada is flat, eleven miles long, and its famous beaches are miles from the ferry dock at Setting Point. A Jeep, a moke, a scooter or an e-bike is how you see it on your own. Here are the two rental desks we could confirm are trading, and what they charge.

The first question

Do you need a car on Anegada?

Rent something

Loblolly Bay, Cow Wreck and the north-shore beaches are miles from Setting Point. Taxis are open trucks arranged through the restaurants and hotels: $20 for one, $10 each for three or more, from Setting Point to Loblolly Bay, Cow Wreck or the Anegada Beach Club.

The island is flat, so an e-bike or a scooter works, but many roads are sand; a Jeep or moke takes the tracks. Rentals here cost about double Virgin Gorda's.

Rent or take taxis? Do the sums

The taxi column is the official fixed fare from Setting Point, there and back, for your party; change the rental rate to the quote you have.

Taxis$300
Rental$850

Taxis win by $550 for 2 people over 5 days.

Taxi: the official fare Setting Point ↔ Loblolly Bay, $30 each way for 2 together, 2 rides a day. BVI fares: one rider pays the top rate, three or more the lowest. Night (midnight–6 AM), luggage and waiting surcharges are extra; the fare calculator has every pair.

Before you drive

Driving on Anegada: the rules of the road

Side of the road
Drive on the LEFT, in American left-hand-drive cars. Keep left on the blind bends and when pulling out of a car park.
Licence
Bring your home licence and US$10 in cash. Sources disagree on who needs the BVI temporary licence: the U.S. State Department's May 2026 advisory says every visitor renting a car does, and Hertz sells it at its counter for $10; Canada's June 2026 travel advice and the Enterprise/National/Alamo counters say a stay under 30 days can drive on the home licence alone. Rental counters issue it on the spot, valid about three months.
Seat belts and phones
Seat belts in front, car seats for infants, and no phone in the hand while driving.
Insurance
Most auto policies from home do not cover the BVI, the franchise counters warn. Check your credit card's rental cover before you decline the collision waiver; damage deductibles run $750–$1,000.
Currency
The BVI uses the U.S. dollar. Rates carry a 5% government tax.
Roads
Flat, with sand tracks to the north-shore beaches. Cows, donkeys and flamingo ponds: go slowly.
Fuel
Fuel is scarce on Anegada. Anegada Reef includes it in every rental; ask the others how much is in the tank.
Licence
The BVI temporary licence is for cars and scooters; Anegada has no motor-vehicle office, so confirm before you sail that your desk can issue it. E-bikes need no licence.
