For a private day charter across the USVI and BVI in 2026, expect to pay roughly:

What's usually included — and what isn't
The quoted price is rarely the all-in price. When comparing bids, pay attention to whether these are included or extra:
- Fuel. On a full day in the BVI, fuel can easily run $200–$500. Some operators include it; many quote fuel separately as a flat fee or hourly rate.
- Captain gratuity. 15–20% of the base rate is standard. Never included.
- BVI entry fees / customs. 1. Boat type and size
This is the biggest single factor. A 28–32 ft center console with a single captain might charter for $1,200 a day. The same group on a 45 ft catamaran with a captain and mate is closer to $3,500. Yachts over 50 ft with an onboard crew start at $5,000/day and go up fast.
2. Season
USVI/BVI charter pricing is strongly seasonal:

4. Inclusions

5. Weekday vs. weekend
Saturdays and Sundays book out first and often command a 5–15% premium during peak season. Midweek trips, especially Tuesday–Thursday, are frequently the best value.
USVI-only vs. BVI day trip: the real day-charter pricing gap
A common surprise: the boat rate itself is nearly identical whether the day trip stays in the USVI or crosses into the BVI. A 32-foot power cat with the same captain quotes roughly the same base for a St. John loop as it does for a Jost Van Dyke run. What changes is the fees and the fuel. A USVI-only day trip typically lands 30–40% cheaper by the time you're at the dock, not because the boat is different, but because a BVI crossing adds $85/person in customs and entry fees (kids included), 30–60 extra minutes of fuel each way, and often a mooring-ball fee at The Baths or the Soggy Dollar. By island: what to budget from
St. Thomas (Red Hook & Havensight)
The base for most USVI day trips. Red Hook has the largest fleet and the widest range of boat types — you'll see the tightest competition on price for anything Red Hook → St. John or Red Hook → Jost Van Dyke. Havensight (cruise pier) charters are typically 10–20% higher because they're pitched at cruise-day-trippers, and available slots are shorter (usually 5–6 hours to make it back for departure). Sunset cruises out of Charlotte Amalie are the cheapest way onto a boat in the USVI ($400–$650 for a small group).
St. John (Cruz Bay)
A smaller charter market — most St. John day charters actually start with a Red Hook boat picking you up in Cruz Bay.
